Writing to AIMA is stressful when your Portuguese is basic, and choosing the wrong subject on the contact form or leaving out a key detail can stall your request. AIMA Stuck? Email Them Free, our free AIMA email writer, does the hard part for you: it turns your own details into a polite, formal email in European Portuguese, gives you an English translation so you know exactly what it says, and shows you where and how to send it.

What the tool does
The Email Writer covers 43 everyday situations, matched to all 32 Tipo/Subtipo combinations the tool lists for AIMA’s contact form (as seen on 2 October 2026), from a Portal de Renovações problem or an address change to a lost card, a new passport or a baby born in Portugal. If nothing on the form fits, the tool tells you to email instead.
Your data stays in your browser. We checked the tool’s code: it makes no network requests and submits no form, so nothing you type is sent to us or to AIMA. Only your EN/PT language choice is remembered, and reloading the page clears the rest. You send the email yourself.
The 4 steps
- Situation. Search (try “address”, “passport” or “baby”) or browse the groups. Each option shows the exact Tipo → Subtipo it uses on the form.
- Your details. Fill in what you have: your name as in your passport, nationality, date of birth, passport, NIF or process number. Anything left blank is left out. The tool flags common slips, such as a NIF that fails the check digit or a postcode not written as 1234-567.
- Your email. You get the Portuguese email and subject line with copy buttons, a checklist of documents to attach (untick any you won’t send) and the English translation. The translation is just for you: send the Portuguese version.
- How to send it. Step-by-step instructions: which Tipo and Subtipo to choose, where to paste your email, what to attach and what happens next.

Contact form or geral@aima.gov.pt?
AIMA says its contact form at contactenos.aima.gov.pt is the right channel to ask for an in-person appointment: pick the subject that best fits your case (Tipo de Assunto, then Subtipo de Assunto). If the form has no option for your situation, AIMA says to send the request by email to geral@aima.gov.pt, always with your full name, date of birth, nationality, contact email and the reason for the request. The Email Writer follows the same rule and puts those details in for you.
Renewals work differently: they go through AIMA’s online Portal de Renovações (it only opens from Portugal), and the form has its own “Portal de Renovações” subjects for problems and corrections there. AIMA’s homepage also announced planned work on the form between 2 and 3 October 2026; if it’s offline, try again later.
Tips before you send
- Send each request once. AIMA asks people not to send the same request more than once. To follow up, the tool suggests “Consulta e acompanhamento do processo” → “Qual o estado do meu processo ?”.
- Keep your reference. Screenshot the confirmation and quote your reference or process number every time you write.
- Check your spam folder. AIMA replies and sends appointments by email.
- AIMA is free. AIMA says asking for an in-person appointment is free. Never pay WhatsApp “agents”: read our guide to AIMA appointment scams and the free official channels.
- The phone is for information only. AIMA’s contact centre, (+351) 217 115 000, does not book appointments. Its contacts page lists Monday–Friday 08:00–20:00, while the contact form shows weekdays 09:00–18:00, so check the current hours before you call.
- Approved, but still no card? See what happens next when your residence card hasn’t arrived.
