Segurança Social Direta (SSD) is the online portal of Portuguese Social Security. With it you can check whether your employer pays your contributions, submit self-employed declarations, ask for benefits and download documents. It uses a different password from the Portal das Finanças.
Before you start
- Your NISS (11-digit Social Security number)
- Your NIF
- An email address and a mobile number
Step by step
- Go to seg-social.pt and open Segurança Social Direta.
- Click Efetuar Registo (register).
- Enter your NISS, NIF, name, date of birth and identification document.
- Enter your email and mobile number and choose where to receive the code.
- Type the code you receive and create your password.
If your contacts are not yet in Social Security’s records, or the system can’t confirm your identity, you may need to update your details at a Social Security service desk. Portuguese Citizen Card holders can also log in with Chave Móvel Digital.
What to do first after logging in
- Check your contributions: see whether your employer is declaring your salary every month (Remunerações / Contribuições).
- Update your IBAN so benefits can be paid.
- Confirm your address, email and phone.
What else you can do on SSD
- Self-employed: submit the quarterly declaration and pay contributions
- Download the no-debt certificate
- Apply for child benefit and other benefits
- See the status of sick leave payments
Never share your SSD password with an employer or agency. Anyone with it can see your data and submit declarations for you.
